Step inside history by visiting the old police station.

Once a busy hub of local law and order, this Victorian police station has been meticulously restored into a characterful holiday retreat. The station officially opened on September 1, 1895. It was built in a Victorian style and served as a combined police station and courthouse for 115 years. In 2012, the community group 4CG Ltd purchased the old station and courthouse using funds from a community share offer to preserve the iconic local landmark. While the imposing stone exterior retains its original grandeur, including the original jail cells, cell doors,—the interior has been transformed into a warm, light-filled sanctuary. 4CG was created by a small group of locals that felt they could enhance the area of Cardigan by developing and encouraging existing opportunities. 4CG focuses on the local economy and an attempt to encourage local people to shop locally to support small local businesses and prevent all local money going to distant shareholders in large companies.

The old Court House

Experience a truly unique escape in this beautifully restored Cardigan Court House landmark. Once the center of local justice, this former magistrates' court has been expertly converted into a sophisticated holiday retreat that blends centuries of heritage with contemporary comfort.

Where Grandeur Meets Comfort

  • A Dramatic Welcome: Enter through the original heavy doors into a world of high vaulted ceilings and period architectural details that evoke the building’s storied past,  the first thing that strikes you is the atmospheric collision of the past and the present. Once a 200-year-old magistrate’s courthouse, the building now hums with the polyglot chatter of residents, yet the architecture refuses to let you forget its solemn origins. The grand, wood-paneled courtrooms have been reimagined as social hubs, where judges once handed down sentences, travellers now hunch over laptops or swap stories over pints, the high ceilings catching and softening the clatter of a dozen different languages.
  • The Heart of the Courthouse: Relax in the spacious living area—formerly the main courtroom—now transformed into a cozy haven with plush sofas. To stay here is to live within the literal bones of the Victorian legal system. The most striking accommodations are the original prison cells, converted into snug, private bedrooms. Entering one is a sensory shift; the heavy, iron-studded doors groan on their hinges, and the thick stone walls provide a sudden, cool silence that contrasts with the vibrant energy of the hallways. Inside, the space is minimalist—a bunk bed fitted into the narrow confines—but the small, barred window high on the wall serves as a constant reminder of those who once occupied this space under far different circumstances.
  • Gourmet Pleasures: The high-specification kitchen provide the perfect stage for hosting, whether you're preparing local delicacies or enjoying a catered evening.
  • Serene Chambers: Retreat to bedrooms featuring original features and tranquil decor, ensuring a restful stay far removed from the building's busy origins. As evening falls, the "Clinc" lives up to its name, it is a surreal juxtaposition:  the air is thick with the electric buzz of new and old friendships,  all of you sitting in a space that was once designed for isolation but now thrives on connection.
  • Morning at the station brings a different rhythm. The light filters through the tall, arched windows of the former lobby, illuminating the worn stone steps polished smooth by centuries of footsteps. There is a specific kind of "hostel peace" here . Leaving the building, you carry with you more than just a night’s sleep; you carry the strange, lingering feeling of having slept inside a piece of history, where the cold shadows of the past have been thoroughly warmed by the spirit of the modern traveller.
